Outdated Interior Home Trends.....

If you want to modernize, update and refresh Here are some outdated trends that you should consider removing or changing from your home’s decor.

#1 ) Faux/Silk Greens & Accessories on top of Kitchen Cabinets

Also known as “dust catchers” better to toss.  If your look depends this type of decorating streamline and only out a few pieces and modernize.  Maybe some succulents rather than overstuffed ferns.

#2) Overstuffed Curio Cabinets filled with collections.  Cramming cabinets with loads of china or collectables is over stimulation.  Weed out & limit the pieces you want to display - less is more.

#3) Tile Countertops.   Not an easy fix but if you still have a ceramic tile countertop it may be time to renovate.  Grout lines are hard to keep clean and the grid grout lines look dated.  Opt for quartz (man-made) or natural stone.  Read our Countertop Article to help understand different countertop options and help determine what would be best for your home.

#4) Hard Blade Vertical Blinds…..this window treatment style is so dated one of our main shade manufacturers discontinued them in 2022! You can still opt for a vertical soft treatment like Hunter Douglas Luminettes….But the hard blade, plastic-style vertical blinds are really out of date looking…

#5) Sponge Wall Painting…..Ok I have to admit I did this myself in the 90’s….This is now way out past it’s prime.   An easy fix with a new coat of paint!

#6) Water Beds - Can’t imagine that one of these would still be in working order but if you have one time to upgrade to a new non-water mattress.  In the 90's didn’t everyone know someone who had a waterbed?

#7) Fake Fruit Decor - Ok, I think most of us had a grandma that had a bowl of faux fruit on the table or countertop.  Today only fake food should be found in a model home!   Swap that faux fruit for fresh!
